Michelle Lowe Solis' Background: Michelle worked for 36 years for the Department of Defense. She started as an intern at Brooks Air Force Base. At the end of her career, she was the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary for Management responsible for overseeing the business side of the Air Force. While at Randolph Air Force Base (2007-2012), she managed over 1,200 people in six different locations. She understands how large organizations work, and brings that skillset to the Bexar County Democratic Party.
The Chair's initial focus is on these four areas:
First and foremost, we will focus on the fundamentals. We need to make sure we’re financially sound and we fill and train precinct chairs. Ground game is important, but we learned in this election that it’s not everything. We need to explore other ways to reach people where they are.
Second, we will develop relationships with the surrounding counties. We’re a media market, and if we can coordinate messaging that could be very powerful. Michelle already has relationships with Comal, Guadalupe, Comal, Blanco and Hays; She will expand on that and approach Bandera, Medina, Wilson and Atascosa. There is strength in building coalitions and leveraging skills. We are the 7th largest city in the nation. We have to think bigger.
Third, we need to talk about issues and define ourselves. Right now, we’re letting Republicans define us and our candidates. Our stance on the issues is more popular, but our message is not breaking through. Again, we need to reach people where they are at.
Finally, Michelle is a communicator. She is going to communicate with all on a regular basis so we know where we are and what we’re doing. And she will also share what we need to be doing. The secret sauce to organization is communication.
