In closing, when you are comfortable, you may want to try your hand at persuasion.

You might want to convince your family, friends, neighbors, or random strangers that they should vote for Democrats up and down the ballot so that we can live in a better Texas! This may require a bit of homework:

Step 1. Know who represents you!

Knowing our representatives enables us to make arguments based on what they have done, will do, etc. and tell voters how that office and who is in it affects their lives.
Who Represents You
Key members to look for are your:
  • TX State Representatives (Districts 116, 117, 118, 119, 120, 121, 122, 123, 124, or 125)
  • TX State Senate (Districts 19, 21, 25 or 26)
  • US Congressional (Districts 20, 21, 23, 28 or 35)
  • US Senators (Cornyn and Cruz)
Once you have your elected officials identified, use the following three buttons to find their contact information:
Texas House
Texas Senate
Federal Offices
To call your federal offices, try using 5calls.org they provide scripts for current issues and legislation as well as the office phone numbers in one place!

You can learn more about the different Elected Officials and how they affect our lives in our Bexar Dems Voter Guide.

Step 2. Get Smart!
See our Why Democrats? page for some fundamental arguments for why people should vote for Democrats.

Consider our "Where are you on the issues?" one-pager, below. Which of these issues are you most passionate about? Learn more about where your elected officials/candidates stand on those issues! The issues you are most passionate about are also the issues you will be most persuasive on. Other people are likely worried about the same things as you!

Try to find people with your similar view points! Social media, podcasts, YouTube, Substack, and many more platforms provide everyday people with their own platforms to share their thoughts. Try and find someone that is close to your thoughts that can help you articulate the arguments you want to make.
Alternatively, see what the other side is saying so that you know what you need to argue against.

In any case, ensure you are always basing your arguments in facts. Trust is lost easily, so due diligence is necessary. If there are not trustworthy news outlets cited in a claim, ensure you are not parroting misinformation. The League of Women Voters has a resource for looking at Media Bias to see which news outlets to trust.
Step 3. Get out there!
The above are just the basics and not at all exhaustive. However, the best way to learn more is to be out in the world! Whatever issue motivates you, find get plugged in and get to work! There are many great organizations which are already doing impactful work on the ground and always need more volunteers (including us!).

Bexar County Democratic Party Committees- Within the Bexar County Democratic Party, we several issues based committees - Veterans, Election Integrity and Voter Protection, Immigration, and more. Find more information on BCDP Committees
here.
BCDP Affiliated Clubs and Organizations- These are another great place to start! Some are location based while some are interest groups. See the list of Clubs and Orgs here.

Outside of the Bexar Dems, there are many amazing non-partisan organizations which do direct work with immigration, mutual aid, healthcare, and more. Find a local group and see how you can advocate for positive change through their organization. (There are also many government entities- school boards, municipal boards and commissions which are non-partisan but have direct impacts on our lives!)
