What's a Precinct Chair? A precinct chair is a local neighborhood leader that volunteers to represent the Democratic Party in the precinct they live in. Their main job is to organize and mobilize voters within their precinct/neighborhood, and help get everyone to vote during elections. A Precinct Coordinator is local resident in the same precinct that volunteers to help the Precinct Chair.
They may sound like intimidating or too formal titles or positions but you're not expected to be a political expert or a public speaker. You are essentially a local organizer or point of contact for your neighborhood and meant to be a friendly, familiar face in your community.
How big is a precinct? While a typical precinct or voting zone contains around 1,000 voters, it could be just a couple of apartment complexes, a few blocks of a typical residential neighborhood, or a very large area in a rural community—all with the goal of grouping a similar number of voters together.
What can I do? There are 776 precincts in Bexar County and most have no precinct chair or precinct coordinator so you can volunteer to take that empty position of Precinct Chair or if there already is one, become a Coordinator to help. There can be multiple Coordinators but only one Chair.
Help people register to vote by becoming a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) so we can elect Democrats up and down the ballot.
Powered by People is an organization composed of thousands of volunteers across the country who register, stay in touch with and help turn out the voters. They help people get certified as a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) by taking a short training
