Precinct Chair In the Texas Democratic Party, Precinct Chairs are critical for community building, political organizing, and getting out the vote for candidates. It’s where the on-the-ground work happens for the Party. Bexar County has 770 precincts with approximately 200 distributed among the 4 county commissioner districts.
Precinct Chairs are responsible for:
Organizing their precinct and building community in their neighborhood
Ensuring newcomers who have moved into the precinct are registered to vote
Reminding elderly/disabled Democratic voters to apply for vote by mail annually
Mobilizing voters and getting them to the polls
Bridging the gap between voters and elected officials
Plugging volunteers into county-wide efforts and local campaigns
Precinct Chairs also serve on the Bexar County Executive Committee (CEC), which conducts the local business of the Party. The CEC is made up of all precinct chairs and the county party elected officers (county chair, secretary, and Senate district officers). Precinct Chairs are voting members of the CEC. The CEC normally meets via Zoom on the 2nd Tuesday of every Month from 6:00pm - 8:00pm - See BCDP Events Calendar for meeting dates.
