Training is 8 hours with a one hour lunch break (on your own).
It consists of hands-on training with Poll Site voting equipment, as well as the responsibilities of the Election Judge. We will go over forms and paperwork which you will need to understand the application and purpose of. Bring a sweater, as the room can get cold. Bring snacks and water, as this is an all day event!
Training is mandatory.

New Clerk Training If you are interested in working as an Election clerk in Bexar County, this training is for you. This course is a 3-hour training session that prepares you to work alongside your Judge at the poll site. You will be trained on Election laws, how to check-in a voter on Election Day and assist your Judge with Election Day duties. This training is not required but is highly encouraged for new clerks to attend.

There are three paid positions available as election officials: Presiding Election Judge Alternate Election Judge Election Clerk
General Qualifications: You must be a registered voter or have made an application in Bexar County to qualify as an election official.
Presiding Election Judge Primary Duty: To administer the election in accordance with the Texas Election Code. Requirements:
Must be a Bexar County registered voter.
Attend certification class and pass test by 70%, approximate time to completion, 6 hours.
Remain certified by taking an annual test and pass with 70% score.
Class attendance before the election, when applicable.
Pick up of supplies at the designated site.
Visit/set up polling site the day before the election.
Return the supplies, the night of the election, to the designated site.
Pay:
$17.00 per hour during the time the polls are open.
$25.00 for bringing in the returns to the designated site
You cannot be a judge if you:
Hold an elected office. (Precinct Chair is not considered as an elected office.)
Are a candidate for office in that election.
Are a campaign treasurer of a candidate in that election.
Are a campaign manager of a candidate in that election.
Are an employee or relative of an opposed candidate in that election.
Alternate Election Judge
Primary Duties:
Guard the purity of the Election.
Step in as judge when the Presiding Election Judge is not available.
Pay: $16.00 per hour during the time the polls are open. Requirements:
Must be a Bexar County registered voter.
Attend certification class and pass test by 70%, approximate time to completion, 6 hours.
Remain certified by taking an annual test and pass with 70% score.
Class attendance before the election, when applicable.
Election Clerk
Primary Duty: Receives training and assignments from the Election Judge. Pay: $15.00 per hour Requirements:
Must be a Bexar County registered voter.
Called to duty by a Judge.
Not required, but is encouraged to attend certification class and/or information classes for particular election.
